SS-31 (elamipretide) is a synthetic tetrapeptide, D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂, where Dmt is 2′,6′-dimethyltyrosine. Its alternating aromatic and cationic residues are the basis of its description as a mitochondria-targeted peptide. Molecular formula C32H49N9O5, molecular weight 639.8 g/mol, CAS 736992-21-5. Each vial holds 10 mg of lyophilised powder, sealed under nitrogen and stored at −20°C.
